What We Do
Dedicated teamwork providing thorough, personalised, family health care.
We are committed to helping you to maintain your health and wellbeing, as well as assisting you to deal with illness. We will send you reminders for such things as smears and immunisations. We will offer you computer assisted health risk assessments. Lake Surgery is proud to have consistently achieved outstanding Quality Assurance targets for many years.
Standard consultations with our doctors are for 15 minutes and our doctors do their best to run to time. In this time frame it is only possible to address 1to 2 health issues.
Consultations that exceed 15 minutes may incur additional charges, or, in consideration of patients waiting for the next appointment, you may be asked to book a further GP appointment.
Should referral to specialist or hospital be required, we will assist you in managing this process. If you require a referral or forms to be completed and these are not done during the consultation time, there may be an additional charge.
If you would like a support person with you at your consultation please feel free to bring someone with you or advise our staff who will get a member of staff to attend the consultation with you.
Special Appointments for New Patients
If you are new to the practice we offer a free preliminary appointment with our Medical Centre Assistant (MCA). This allows us to ensure we have your records correct and up to date and allows you an opportunity to expand on some of the information provided with our enrolment forms. Please let us know if you would like to utilise this service or we may contact you directly.
Patient Access Centre (PAC)
We have highly experienced staff in Hamilton who manage all phone calls into the practice. The PAC staff are part of our team and this service helps to free up our on site reception staff to focus on patients at reception.
When you contact us, our team will establish the purpose of your call to see if your query can be managed over the phone or if a face-to-face appointment is required with your GP or nurse. This helps us to be more prepared and have the information we need before your consultation and may mean faster or simpler resolutions for queries such as prescriptions or test results.
If you are in need of a same day appointment please phone us as early as possible. A doctor or nurse will contact you as soon as possible to assess your needs and see if they can assist you over the phone or book you in to see an appropriate team member.
In addition to the standard range of family medical services, we offer minor surgery, fracture plastering, insertion of contraceptive devices, skin biopsy, steroid joint injections, audiometry (hearing test), ECG, spirometry (breathing test), ear syringing, cervical smears, sexual health checks, yearly osteoporosis venous injection, and a number of other procedures. We also provide blood taking services for the laboratory. Please ask at reception for a list of fees for these.
Please advise us as early as possible if you are unable to keep an appointment so that we can offer it to someone else. Missed appointments will be charged $10 if we are not advised within 4 hours of the appointment.
All the doctors in Taupo take part in an after hours duty roster. Simply phone the surgery on (07)3786294 and you will be transferred to the town duty doctor or an experienced nurse led answering service who will assist you on where to obtain medical assistance.
Specific Medical Examinations
We offer medical examinations and reports for insurance companies, employers, recreational diving examination, driving licenses, etc. When you phone for an appointment please let us know the nature of the examination so we can plan the appropriate appointment time for you.
We offer advice and will organize medication and immunisation for your overseas travel.
We believe the future of quality general practice lies in quality teaching. Our practice hosts medical students who may sit in on consultations subject to your permission. We also may have a registrar attached to the practice, who is an experienced doctor spending time in general practice under the guidance of one of our doctors.
